En toile de fond, la <strong>donn\u00e9e<\/strong> est un sujet qui revient sans cesse. Elle a d\u00e9j\u00e0 donn\u00e9 naissance \u00e0 de nombreuses tendances comme le big data ou le stockage vertical. Plus r\u00e9cemment, le concept de <strong>Zero Copy<\/strong> s\u2019impose \u00e0 la fois comme une r\u00e9flexion strat\u00e9gique et comme une r\u00e9ponse concr\u00e8te \u00e0 plusieurs d\u00e9fis li\u00e9s aux donn\u00e9es. Une \u00e9tude r\u00e9cente montre que les PME stockent en moyenne <strong>50 To de donn\u00e9es<\/strong>, un chiffre qui peut atteindre <strong>350 To<\/strong> pour les grandes entreprises. M\u00eame si les vitesses r\u00e9seau ont progress\u00e9 et que le stockage n\u2019a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 aussi abordable, d\u00e9placer de tels volumes reste loin d\u2019\u00eatre trivial.<\/p>\n<p>Ensuite, les progr\u00e8s des technologies de bases de donn\u00e9es cloud (comme Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Redshift ou Databricks) ont permis aux \u00e9quipes IT de construire des data warehouses au sein de leurs clouds priv\u00e9s. Ces bases ne proposent pas toujours des capacit\u00e9s ETL (extraction, transformation et chargement) compl\u00e8tes, mais le chargement des donn\u00e9es n\u2019est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement pas un probl\u00e8me. On pourrait m\u00eame dire que la data est th\u00e9oriquement disponible, sans \u00eatre r\u00e9ellement <strong>accessible<\/strong> aux \u00e9quipes qui en ont le plus besoin, par exemple le marketing qui ne dispose pas toujours des comp\u00e9tences SQL requises.<\/p>\n<p>Parall\u00e8lement, le cadre l\u00e9gal n\u2019a cess\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9voluer vers plus de rigueur. Le <strong>RGPD<\/strong> en est l\u2019exemple principal, mais il n\u2019est pas le seul. Au final, l\u2019emplacement des donn\u00e9es est devenu un enjeu cl\u00e9, et ne pas les envoyer vers des solutions SaaS am\u00e9ricaines est une pr\u00e9f\u00e9rence largement partag\u00e9e. Il ne s\u2019agit pas seulement du risque d\u2019acc\u00e8s par des agences gouvernementales, mais aussi du fait que la data est le carburant indispensable \u00e0 l\u2019entra\u00eenement des mod\u00e8les d\u2019IA de ces acteurs. La <strong>souverainet\u00e9 des donn\u00e9es<\/strong> est d\u2019ailleurs une sous-tendance dont on entendra de plus en plus parler.<\/p>\n<p>D\u2019un point de vue stockage, les entreprises ont donc un <strong>fort int\u00e9r\u00eat \u00e0 conserver la ma\u00eetrise de leur actif data<\/strong>, et la technologie leur permet aujourd\u2019hui d\u2019y parvenir de mani\u00e8re scalable et \u00e9conomiquement viable.<\/p>\n<p>Conserver les donn\u00e9es dans un environnement s\u00e9curis\u00e9 et techniquement robuste ne repr\u00e9sente que la <strong>moiti\u00e9 du probl\u00e8me<\/strong>. L\u2019autre enjeu consiste \u00e0 les rendre <strong>disponibles et exploitables<\/strong> par les \u00e9quipes et les syst\u00e8mes qui en ont besoin. Elles ont besoin <strong>d\u2019insights, de d\u00e9cisions et de points de personnalisation<\/strong>. C\u2019est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment le principe du Zero Copy. <strong>Acc\u00e9der \u00e0 la donn\u00e9e sans la dupliquer.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>R\u00e9duction des co\u00fbts<\/h3>\n<p>Un autre probl\u00e8me adress\u00e9 par le Zero Copy concerne le mod\u00e8le de facturation de nombreux \u00e9diteurs SaaS, d\u00e9sormais bas\u00e9 sur les \u00e9v\u00e9nements. R\u00e9pliquer des t\u00e9raoctets de donn\u00e9es en mouvement constant dans ces plateformes fait rapidement exploser les co\u00fbts.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 l\u2019inverse, en ne fournissant aux outils que ce dont ils ont r\u00e9ellement besoin pour fonctionner, le volume d\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nements peut \u00eatre <strong>r\u00e9duit par 10, voire par 100<\/strong>. J\u2019ai d\u2019ailleurs vu des CMO contraints de prendre de mauvaises d\u00e9cisions business simplement \u00e0 cause d\u2019une facture \u00e9v\u00e9nementielle imminente.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Coh\u00e9rence des donn\u00e9es<\/h3>\n<p>Le Zero Copy apporte \u00e9galement des b\u00e9n\u00e9fices plus indirects, comme la <strong>coh\u00e9rence des donn\u00e9es<\/strong>. Le marketing moderne repose sur l\u2019int\u00e9gration de multiples plateformes (CRM, email, r\u00e9seaux sociaux, analytics, etc.). Limiter les copies redondantes permet d\u2019\u00e9viter les divergences de qualit\u00e9 ou les d\u00e9synchronisations entre syst\u00e8mes. Un avantage parfois difficile \u00e0 mesurer \u00e0 court terme, mais pr\u00e9cieux pour pr\u00e9venir les probl\u00e8mes de qualit\u00e9 des donn\u00e9es sur le long terme.<\/p>\n<p>Dans la m\u00eame logique, le marketing exige de plus en plus de <strong>personnalisation<\/strong> et de<strong> r\u00e9activit\u00e9 en temps r\u00e9el<\/strong>. Le Zero Copy r\u00e9duit la latence en \u00e9liminant les mouvements de donn\u00e9es inutiles. Lorsque la donn\u00e9e est consult\u00e9e directement \u00e0 la source, elle est par d\u00e9finition <strong>fra\u00eeche, \u00e0 jour et temps r\u00e9el<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Une solution miracle ? Pas tout \u00e0 fait.<\/h2>\n<p>Le Zero Copy n\u2019est probablement pas la solution universelle que tout le monde attend. Certaines donn\u00e9es doivent toujours circuler, certains syst\u00e8mes cibles imposent des contraintes sp\u00e9cifiques, et les tech stacks ne sont jamais parfaites.
